Have I blown my motor?

A few weeks ago I was driving down the road when my oil light started flashing and there was a loud humming noise. The noise got louder as I went faster. My oil light kept flashing and the noise got louder and louder until it suddenly faded and the car shut off. There wasn't a big bang or anything, it just faded stopped running. It wouldn't start after that. We put oil in it and tried to jump start it but it still won't start. A few people I've spoken to think it could be my fuel pump or my alternator or that I've blown the motor. I've checked the oil and it's a dark chocolate color with no air bubbles. If I have blown the motor is it worth my time and money to get it fixed or should I just look for another car? I'm going to college in August and I need something reliable.
