Are technicians overpaid?

I'll admit there's some good ones, but I've also met some real doozers. Why do they get paid so much with just a high school diploma? Remember that "technician" that murdered the Yale student? Also, it's like 86% white technicians. You might as well be banging against a wall if you're a minority looking for a technician job.
