Does anyone have some good suggestions for fantasy books?

You could try the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series by George R. R. Martin. It is very similar to lord of the rings in its style of fantasy, but I actually like this series much better. It is impossible to put down a book after starting to read it. Plus, They are all long and lasted me for quite a while.
