Can police make deragatory staments about your religion?

tonight my neighbors called the police on my husband for falling asleep in the door way of our apt. It was very hot outside and hotter in the house. The police officer said he wanted to make sure he was still breathing; I told him, he was breathing. The officer then shined his flash light into my husbands face waking him up, then started telling him he was drunk ( he wasnt) cause there were beer cans in a bag by the door. He then continued to badger us, saying we were drunks ( i dont drink at all) an d that he would pray for us. At that poimt, I told him that iwas offended by that statement. He got very angry and threatened to find something to take me to jail for. He said it was fine if I wanted to worship the devil and that I should find myself a good attorney cause I am going to need one in the future. I have never been arrested or in trouble with the law ever. Is this behavior excepted as a police officer? what action should we take? no one got arrested by the way.
